This year, out of 1,165 tested wellness hotels in Germany, only 1 out of 8 houses were awarded the highest rating, the quality seal of the lily. The Maharishi Ayurveda Health Centre Bad Ems has enjoyed this top award since 2010 and this year again, for the 12th time in a row, is the only Ayurveda provider in Germany to call 2 lilies its own.

“Ayurveda means ‘science of life’ and its central theme is the unity of body, mind and soul. For the healing of diseases as well as for the preservation of health, all these aspects must therefore be included in the therapy, and this is exactly what is being practiced in this house, which has already been a specialist for Ayurvedic detoxification cures (‘Panchakarma’) for three decades.
“And more than that: The center has now become the leading Ayurveda provider in Europe. It is subject to tough quality criteria, is run as a state-approved private clinic, and can easily compete with the best of its counterparts in India or Sri Lanka. It is housed in the east wing of Häcker’s Grand Hotel, the high-quality rooms and the small spa are located within the hotel area and can be reached in just a few steps. Guests dine in a separate restaurant, however, so they can keep to themselves. The Ayurveda cuisine is organic and very good.
“The center provides classic cures for detoxification and rejuvenation, as well as for the treatment of intractable chronic diseases. Besides 10-, 14- and 21-day Panchakarma courses of treatment, two- to seven-day taster packages are offered, and diagnosis and treatments are also available on an outpatient basis.
“A sensitive and experienced team of doctors with many years of practice; the medical director is the German Ayurveda pioneer Karin Pirc, a medical doctor and psychologist with decades of practical experience. Very good therapies in a pleasant environment, warm and attentive crew, high quality oils and good medicines. An international crowd of guests; capacity of the clinic is about 50 guests.”
