In the worst cases, life becomes increasingly restricted. Fear is usually experienced as a constricting feeling on a subjective level. During panic attacks, however, the autonomic nervous system is intensely involved. Heart rate and breathing speed up, sweating increases and fear intensifies, leading to helpless panic. This may occur many times a day, even without an identifiable trigger.
