Arthrosis
When the joints ache

“My fingers hurt pretty much all the time.” “My knees ache particularly when going down stairs.” “My hips ache when I get up out of a chair.”

This or a similar experience is what arthrosis patients report with regard to their aching joints.

It begins rather harmlessly. At first here and there is some pain in one or more joints. Gradually, however, the pain-free intervals become shorter and at some point it cannot be overlooked anymore: a permanent arthropathy has developed. Often deformation of joints especially in the fingers or end knuckles of the fingers occurs. In an x-ray, the physician can see a reduction of the buffering cartilage disks within a joint.

A typical symptom is that the arthrosis pain decreases during exercise. Modern medicine recognizes this as a consequence of an injured joint or sees it as a natural symptom of old age.

What is the Vedic medicine point of view on arthrosis?

Arthrosis from an Ayurvedic point of view

According to Maharishi Ayurveda arthrosis starts with the loss of natural balance.

Metabolic residues develop continuously due to improper lifestyle. In the case of arthrosis, toxins (in Ayurveda called “Ama”) accumulate in the joints. This Ama reduces the free flow of nutrients in the blood and eventually the cartilage disks are found to lack proper nourishment of vital substances. They gradually dry out.

In Ayurveda every patient is different and so each arthrosis complaint varies. The Ayurvedic approach at our Centre is holistic.

What can Ayurveda do for you?

In Vedic medicine, arthrosis is addressed by combining various treatments into a multi-faceted approach adapted to your individual situation, as determined in a comprehensive diagnosis by one of our physicians.

An integrated approach

Increasingly, patients are finding that conventional therapies alone are not enough.

They recognize that healing must take place on all levels. In the case of arthrosis, for example, there is an emphasis on the elimination of toxins as well as the renewal of the affected joints. It is important to bring all natural regulatory principles back into harmony. Nutritional recommendations and helpful exercises, as well as specific herbal mixtures – tailored according to your needs – support a health-conscious lifestyle. In this way your natural self-healing abilities can lessen the destruction of joint cartilage effectively.
