“I have a goiter.” “I am constantly under stress.” “Slowly but steadily, I gain weight.”
This or a similar experience is what people report when they have a thyroid malfunction.
The hormones that develop in the thyroid regulate metabolism and the growth of body cells and also inhibit bone reduction. Thyroid hyperfunction causes agitation, sleep disturbance, palpitations, diarrhoea and loss of weight. Conversely, in the case of thyroid hypofunction, there is lack of motivation, lack of appetite, constipation, dry skin and increase of weight even when food intake is the same.
It doesn’t matter whether the dysfunction is due to hot or cold knots in the thyroid tissues or whether the thyroid is enlarged or a normal size.
